Monday Night Workshop: The Fate of the Arvada Center and Your First Arvada Parking Ticket

Dear CLRC members and friends, 

Where and when will you get your first City of Arvada parking ticket?  Would you be surprised to find it’s at Costco?  And why can’t your daughter have her wedding reception in the Arvada Center?

I find that the most interesting City Council meetings are those that are not normally televised.  They are called workshops and are scheduled at the rate of about two a month.  The public is welcome to attend and listen to what is going on, but there is normally no public comment period — you have to wait for a regular Council meeting for that.   

The workshop this Monday night (November 25th at 6:00 pm in City Hall’s Council Chambers) promises to be particularly interesting.  Officially, no decisions are made during workshops.  Unofficially, the City Staff often gets a lot of direction on how to proceed on major policy issues. 

The two big issues being addressed Monday night are parking restrictions and enforcement in Olde Town, and the go-ahead to turn the Arvada Center over to a soon-to-be-created non-profit foundation.  If you are interested, you should attend.  It will be hard to find out what happened during the workshop otherwise.
